YOU’RE INVITED TO A TYPICAL DAY

AT FRIDAY SOUP KITCHEN

We start at 9 A.M. preparing the hot, nutritious meal we’ll be serving that day. A typical meal might be chicken parmesan with pasta and Italian green beans and we always prepare macaroni and cheese for our vegetarian guests. Plus there’s always a freshly chopped salad and fruit cocktail. All to make over 300 meals.

Since this may be the only meal our guests eat that day, we give them hearty portions and even provide snacks to take away – a peanut butter and jelly sandwich on whole wheat bread, a banana, and a granola bar.

And what meal would be complete without freshly baked bread and a sweet treat provided by our friends at Orwasher's Bakery and Whole Foods.

Then it’s time to set up for mealtime. Our volunteers set up the dining room. It’s restaurant style all the way. Each table of eight is set with a tablecloth, real dishes, real flatware, ceramic mugs, a placemat designed by local schoolchildren – and a floral centerpiece.

*Thanks for offering to volunteer at Friday Soup Kitchen NYC. We appreciate your kindness.

Unfortunately, due to Covid 19, we are only doing takeout meals for our guests, which require a very limited number of volunteers and we have no openings at this time.
